How long have you been a trainer?
26 years ago I started training in a martial arts setting and the past 23 years as a secondary job and passion. However, for the past 10 years personal training has been my main career path and full time job.
What is your general approach to personal training?
My approach is a rational hierarchy of health, performance, and physique. Many people have the primary goal of physique when they start with fitness programs. Although there are methods to achieve that goal quickly, I find that health as the primary foundation is essential for truly long-lasting results.
If we looked at my approach as a pyramid, health would be the wider base. Performance would be the next tier because a healthy body is capable of improving physical standards. At the top of the pyramid is physique. A healthy body that can perform will be more likely to look good too!
I take wisdom from the following quote…
“As to methods, there may be a million and then some, but principles are few. The man who grasps principles can successfully select his own methods. The man who tries methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble.”
What appeals to you most about being a trainer at True Health and Fitness?
Being a part of an integrative health practice with a clear purpose and a community where we respect and learn from our peers.
What daily routines do you practice that helps you achieve your health goals?
I like to lead by example and strict adherence to self-accountability. I train AND challenge my mind, body, and spirit daily. I exercise, read, and play daily. I am constantly seeking progress from within and from the experts I respect.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to practice martial arts and spend time outdoors. I do not allow my mind, body, and spirit to be a prison but instead a vessel to practice freedom.
