Each month we feature someone from the True Health and Fitness team on our blog. This month we interviewed Dawn Flenniken. Dawn is often the first person to greet you in both the clinic and fitness facility, check out this interview to get to know her better!
What are your roles at True Health and Fitness?
I am an office manager, personal trainer, TruFit coach, motivator, cheerleader, and Spartan.
What appeals to you most about being a part of True Health and Fitness?
I enjoy the family-like atmosphere. Everyone at THF is positive and supportive of each other. I like being able to help people achieve their fitness goals and help lead them to goals they never thought possible.
What is your general approach to teaching the TruFit classes?
I use a positive reinforcement approach with the TruFit classes. I like the class to be challenging but in a fun and supportive environment. I encourage my students so they can achieve their fitness goals with consistency. I try to make class fun so that students look forward to coming back but also challenging so that they see results.
What daily routines do you practice that helps you achieve your health goals?
I follow a strict exercise and food plan. Being prepared helps me stick to my daily health routines especially with food planning. A very helpful tool I use is to log all my food and exercise in a journal. I also make sure to leave time for rest and meditation. Staying positive and optimistic helps me achieve my health goals.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
All things active! I love to trail run with friends, participate in Spartan Races, lift weights, and go camping.
For down time, I like to cook for my family and read.
You got first place in your age group at a Spartan Race last year. What are your Spartan goals for this race season?
My goals are to do my very best, train hard, compete to win, and hopefully bring home a podium spot for the THF team. I especially want to place at the race in Killington, VT. Coach Kevin introduced Spartan Racing to us THF Spartans as a team sport. Although we each have individual goals we all tend to be motivated by the idea of working as a team. I would like to help all our THF competitive athletes to rank in the top 5 for all races we compete in.
